The Process - Scope Prepartion for Cerakote

    GLASS EYE

Scopes are precise tools, whether they are for hunting, bird watching, spotting, or ranging; They can come in all shapes, sizes, and designs like your traditional hunting scopes, to LPVOs, spotting, mono and binocular, FFP or SFP, illuminated or not, and the list goes on. Regardless of the type and style, the technicians in our custom shop take extraordinary care in the preparation phase to carefully mask off indication rings, hash marks, ocular and objective lens, branded medallions and tabs, serial numbers, elevation, windage, and parallax rings prior to Cerakote application. Precision optics deserves the precision care that our custom shop offers. Have your next scope project done with us at Black Box Customs.

Neat. How do you mask off the ends so cleanly to protect the glass?

The shop uses high temp PET tape for the masking, everything is applied by hand and then trimmed carefully with polymer razor blades. In certain cases we have pre-programmed shapes and sizes for lens on our vinyl cutter to machine cut the exact shapes and sizes for masking to save time. ie:30-44mm, 40mm, 50mm, 54mm, etc.. for objective lens and so on.
