Am I missing something, or just a sucker?

    Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to optics and I picked up a new rifle and scope at Ellwood Epps this weekend. I don't know a whole lot about scopes but I had been told not to cheap out to much and since this was my first rifle with a scope I budgeted $300-600. I asked the rep to recommend some scopes for the gun and he came out this a Bushnell Engage 3-9X40 will illumination. I tried it out and it seemed decent, but I don't know much so it was basically a leap of faith.

The scope was $495, and it's listed as that price on their website: https://ellwoodepps.com/bushnell-engage-3-9x40-illuminated-multi-x-riflescope-black.html

However I got home and was trying to look up the manual on the scope and general info, and I noticed the same scope is on sale pretty much everywhere for $200, regular $300

Am I missing something by mismatching the products, IE is there some difference that I am missing?

Or an I just an idiot and got taken for a sucker / taught an expensive lesson?

You should be able to return it or at least exchange it if not happy.

    1) Yes, you gotten taken.

    2) Wes Winkel, the owner of Elwood Epps, is helping the Liberals confiscate guns. Even if he had the best price you shouldn't be spending money there unless you support having your guns taken away.

Thanks yeah hopefully. When I asked them to mount and bore sight it I asked about the return and they didn't really answer exactly what the policy was but mentioned since it would have marks from mounting that would affect my ability to return it so I don't know yet what that's gonna cost me.

U should absolutely never buy local before checking prices across Canada for the same item unless you choose to support local regardless of price .

    1) Thanks for confirming that.

    2) I'm just starting to come across some of that in the form posts here... comes as quite a surprise to me. They seemed like a locally owned shop and so a good place to spend money vs a chain store. Sucks to see this kind of stuff. On the one hand I can understand them not wanting to just lose a ton of money on stock that they can't sell as well but on the other it seems people are suggesting there could be other alternatives? I don't really know enough to say much on the topic.

If your rings are good quality and care was taken when mounted there should be no marks on the scope!
I would remove the scope and inspect it, clean it up and pack it up in the original box if you still have it and return it for full refund.

They mounted the scope therefore they should take responsibility for any damages incurred.
Refund the difference in price from a competitor, exchange for a better quality scope (you pay difference) full refund and you buy elsewhere.
Or chalk it up to experience and let your dollars shop elsewhere in the future.

Fair .. to be honest I was probably caught up in the excitement and should have done some googling on my phone. I'd be happy to spend 5-15% more on local, or something in that range. But this is 250% - I really thought I must be missing something as that's a price disparity I don't think I've ever seen before.
